You have transitioned your horse to barefoot — or plan to — and are looking for reliable protection on the trail? We have ridden our own horses barefoot for years and had the best experience with Scoot Boots on our sandy tracks through the heath: easy on and off, a secure fit, and thanks to the coloured straps you will find a boot again in the rare event one comes off (most likely in deep, long-dry sand). Scoot Boots are the hoof-boot system for horses that love to be out and about.
Fit it, try it on the trail, then buy
Hoof boots are not bought from a size chart. Every hoof is different, and whether a boot really fits only shows on the trail, not standing still. That is why all three steps happen in one place here in the Lüneburg Heath, about an hour south of Hamburg:
- Fitting on the living hoof. At the hoof-boot fitting (89 €, about 30 minutes) we try the sizes on your horse and note model and size. Bring nothing but the horse.
- Try them on the trail. With rental boots (12 € per pair and ride) you ride our sandy tracks and see for yourself how your horse goes in them. For the fuller version there is the Scootboot trail ride (241 €) with safety training and a guided ride.
- Buy afterwards. The quote arrives by mail on the evening of the fitting day. After a fitting you get 10 % off the boots, after the Scootboot trail ride 15 %.
You may also just have the fitting done and buy elsewhere — we will still tell you honestly which size fits. And you can come with your own horse: we have guest boxes, and the fitting fits into your stay.
The hoof-boot fitting — on site, €89
Every hoof is different. During the fitting we adjust the Scoot Boots directly on your horse and tell you in person which size is the right one. Please note: hooves change — the right size can change over time. After the fitting you know exactly which model and size your horse needs.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I have Scoot Boots fitted near Hamburg?
At the Heinshof in Egestorf, Lüneburg Heath nature park — about an hour south of Hamburg and some 20 minutes from the A7 motorway. We fit on the living hoof, and you can try the boots out on the trail right away.
Can I try hoof boots before I buy them?
Yes. We rent out Scoot Boots by the pair for a ride — 12 € per pair and ride, front and hind. That way you see for yourself on our sandy tracks how your horse goes in them before you decide.
What does the fitting cost?
The hoof-boot fitting is 89 € and takes about 30 minutes. If you buy afterwards you get 10 % off the boots; after the Scootboot trail ride it is 15 %.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes, fittings are by arrangement — morning or afternoon. A request through the form below is enough and we will come back with a date.
What size does my horse need?
Only trying them on will tell. Scoot Boot comes in sizes 0 to 11 and in two shapes: Classic Regular for rounder, wider hooves, Classic Slim for narrower, longer ones. The hoof decides, not the chart. And hooves change — after a transition or a long winter it is worth measuring again.
Can I order Scoot Boots from you online?
No, and that is deliberate. We sell after advice and a fitting on site. You get the quote by mail after the fitting and can accept it in your own time.
Can I come with my own horse?
Yes. We have guest boxes and the fitting fits into your stay — measure, ride, decide, all in one visit.
Are hoof boots an alternative to shoes?
For many horses, yes. We moved our horses to barefoot over ten years and ride them out in hoof boots. The boot goes on the horse only when it is needed — on hard or stony ground.
